The smell after rain can ride on tiny bubbles
When a raindrop lands on porous soil, it can trap little pockets of air. Those bubbles rise and burst into a fine mist that may carry earthy-smelling compounds into the air.
The ground gets one raindrop and immediately sends the smell upstairs.
