A hummingbird can turn its head and switch a dark throat to ruby
The stiff, reflective throat feathers of a male ruby-throated hummingbird can look dark when the light misses them. At the right angle, the same feathers reflect an intense metallic red.
One tiny head turn, and the bird finds the light switch.
