An ipu hula is a drum made from two gourds
An ipu hula joins a smaller hollow gourd upside down on top of a larger one. A player can tap its side for a light beat or strike its base on a padded floor for a deeper note.
One gourd brought the deep note; the other brought the tap. Together they have rhythm.
