A jali cools a room with carved stone lace
Mughal buildings used pierced marble or sandstone screens called jalis as windows and room dividers. Their openings let air circulate, softened bright sunlight and cast moving geometric shadows.
The wall lets the breeze through and sends the sunlight in wearing stars.
