Some gargoyles are very fancy rain spouts
Gargoyle spouts project from roofs and parapets so rainwater can pour away from the wall. At one historic house recorded by the National Park Service, carved gargoyles send the roof water straight from their mouths.
A plain pipe would work, but it would not look nearly as pleased about the rain.
