Some ornate building fronts were assembled from cast-iron pieces
Nineteenth-century foundries cast columns, panels and decorations, checked that they fit, then shipped the separate parts to a building site. There, workers bolted them together into a complete iron facade.
It looks like carved stone, but the building is wearing a very elaborate iron coat.
