An egg-shaped box once carried nutmeg and its own grater
This small enamel container from the 1760s stored a whole nutmeg seed. Removable curved metal pieces fitted inside, ready to grate a little nutmeg over food or drink.
The little egg keeps both the nutmeg and the means to make it snow.
