A sensitive plant folds its leaves by shifting water
A touch or shake starts a quick movement of water inside cells near the leaf stalk. As those cells lose water and soften, the plant's rows of tiny leaflets fold together.
The pink pom-pom stays put; the leaves do the disappearing act.
