A chocolate pot has a tiny hatch for its stirring stick
Hot chocolate could settle at the bottom of the pot. A small cover on the lid swung aside so a long wooden stick, called a moussoir, could stir the drink without removing the whole lid.
The lid stays on. The little silver cover simply moves over for the stirrer.
