A trembleuse saucer gives its cup a porcelain seat
The saucer has a raised ring in the middle that holds the cup steady. It was made to help keep a hot drink from tipping when carried by someone whose hands trembled.
An ordinary saucer carries the cup. This one gives it a snug little seat.
