Sugar once needed its own pair of cutters
Sugar was sold in hard baked loaves or cones. Iron sugar nippers clipped off smaller lumps, which could then move into a sugar bowl and be served with little tongs.
Before the sugar cube, tea began with a surprisingly serious pair of scissors.
