A Downy Woodpecker's nest widens below its tiny door
A pair spends one to three weeks carving a round entrance and a cavity six to twelve inches deep. The space widens toward the bottom, and fresh wood chips make the only lining.
The doorway is tiny; the room gets bigger once the woodpecker is inside.
