Paper wasps turn weathered wood into paper
A paper wasp scrapes up wood fibers, chews them with saliva, and presses the soft pulp into thin layers. The finished nest is a small open comb of hexagonal paper cells.
A pale wood shaving goes in; a little gray umbrella comes out.
