At least two puffins have used sticks as scratchers
Researchers saw one Atlantic Puffin scratch its back with a wooden stick in Wales. Years later, a camera in Iceland recorded another puffin picking up a stick and rubbing its chest feathers.
A bright beak is also a perfectly good handle.
