Thick adobe walls soften the temperature swing between day and night
Dense earthen walls absorb heat slowly and release it slowly. In places with hot days and cool nights, that delay helps keep the temperature at the inner surface more even.
The wall keeps a little of the afternoon and gives it back after sunset.
